
Senior Planning Engineer
Whitehaven Coal Limited is an emerging leader in the Australian coal industry with four well- established open cut mines serving the export market. The organisation is undergoing substantial growth and is developing further projects in northern New South Wales including the Narrabri Underground operation currently under construction. Production is 3.6 Mtpa at present with expansion to 11 Mtpa by 2012. Senior Planning Engineer
The Senior Planning Engineer is accountable for supporting the ongoing mine operations of Whitehaven Coal by identifying and implementing medium– and long–term mine plans. This is a newly created position with considerable responsibility, reporting directly to the General Manager – Technical Services. Specific duties include:

developing and implementing medium– and long–term mining plans and schedules for Whitehaven Coal’s existing mine operations;

participating in the identification of prospective mining opportunities and developing initial plans and schedules for these prospects;

compiling reserve statements for the submission of ASX reports;

contributing to the budget planning process by consolidating individual mine production schedules to the various load points.
Significant experience in the mining industry, preferably in coal mining, is a prime prerequisite for this role. In addition, tertiary qualifications in mining engineering or related disciplines are essential. Previous exposure to both underground and open cut operations, while not mandatory, would be desirable. Of particular importance are personal qualities of self-discipline, integrity and drive.
